The Benefits of SoulPops

Cacao is the purest form of chocolate made from fermented, sun-dried cacao beans. It's much less processed than cocoa, which often contains additives and goes through additional processing steps. Cacao retains more of its natural nutrients and flavours.

Cacao has many health benefits which include being a rich source of antioxidants and flavonoids. Antioxidants help to remove excess free radicals which can cause damage and disease to the cells of your body. Cacao can also improve your heart health. This is due to the antioxidants present as well as potassium, which helps to lower your blood pressure.

It may surprise you to learn that cacao is also good for gut health. There is 2.6g of dietary fibre per SoulPop. The polyphenols and dietary fibre present act as a fuel source for the health promoting microbes in your gut. These health-promoting microbes support the health of your entire body.

Cacao is also a source of magnesium. Magnesium is an essential major mineral your body needs to function. It is involved in over 325 different body functions, including helping to create a healthy balance of activation of the bone building cells known as osteoblasts and the bone removing cells called osteoclasts. Osteoclasts have an important role in bone remodelling and development. Magnesium helps to balance the electrolytes sodium and potassium. These two electrolytes play major roles in determining your blood pressure levels. Having enough magnesium helps to lower your blood pressure, putting less pressure on your heart and is linked to better heart health.

SoulPops can also help if you are feeling a bit under the weather. The antioxidants, zinc and iron present in SoulPops help to optimise your immune system to help you feel back to your normal self-more quickly. Honey also has links to help soothe a cough (1).

Self-care is essential for overall wellbeing and SoulPops can create a ritual which brings you into the moment and can be an act of meditation. This clarity can help add a sense of peace and well-being to your life which, if you are like many of us, if often hectic with a never-ending to-do list.

An Ethical Product

SoulPops only use the best quality cacao which is ACO and kosher certified. Importantly, SoulPops sources its cacao from sources which use sustainable agricultural practices and fair-trade practices.

These products are perfect for those who have removed animal-based items from their diet. I love that SoulPops are dairy, egg, gluten and nut free to allow more people to enjoy the taste and benefits of a delicious cacao drink. There are no artificial colours, flavours, additives, or preservatives.

Looking after the planet is so important. SoulPops look after your health as well as the planet by using sustainably farmed bamboo in their stirrer. The stirrer is home compostable, reusable and biodegradable! The wrapper is also biodegradable, and the packaging is FSC certified.

Uses

I take a SoulPop with me in my bag for the perfect on-the-go pick me up. I love how SoulPops don’t affect my anxiety levels like coffee or make my energy levels crash soon after eating or drinking. This is thanks to a compound called theobromine which truly sets cacao apart from a cup of coffee.

My favourite way of using a SoulPop is as a pre-workout drink or food as the cacao and honey or maple syrup just before a workout helps to give my muscles added glycogen and the theobromine helps to optimise my performance when teaching a fitness class.

SoulPops can also be used as part of a post-workout exercise routine. The theobromine present in SoulPops helps glycogen to be taken more in and replace the glycogen your muscles lost in your workout. The cacao, honey and maple syrup provide good sources of glycogen for your body to use. The antioxidants also help recovery as they assist removal of the free radicals which naturally occur when you exercise. This allows recover to happen more efficiently.
