How to Meet Your Daily Fibre Needs

Fibre is vital for a healthy gut as well as to support stable blood sugar levels, promote healthy blood pressure levels and a healthy weight. Adults need between 25-38g of fibre each day. If you are at a loss of where to start to increase the fibre in your day below is an example of how you can achieve this:

Breakfast

½ cup of rolled oats with 1 cup of fruit = 6.4g of fibre

Snack

Apple = 3.5g

30g almonds = 4g

Lunch

Wholegrain cheese and salad wrap with 2 cups of salad vegetables = 7.5g

Snack

Reduced salt baked beans (130g) = 4.7g

Dinner

Beef stir fry with 1 cup of cooked brown rice and 1.5 cups of cooked vegetables = 4.5g fibre

Total daily fibre = 30.6g

Take home message: By including a variety of whole foods in your day you can keep your body working at its best.
